Supporting seaweed bed restoration and conservation in Shinkamigoto-cho in Nagasaki

～Continuing to support the growth of underwater forests through measurement technologies～

We participate in seaweed bed conservation and restoration activities in Shinkamigoto-cho, Nagasaki Prefecture, supporting the recovery of marine ecosystems through monitoring surveys that use our measurement technologies. This initiative brings together local fisheries cooperatives, local government, universities, and private companies to restore declining seaweed beds. We have been supporting the initiative since 2024.

Visualizing Changes in the Ocean with an Echosounder

In Shinkamigoto-cho, seaweed beds have been declining due to a phenomenon known as “isoyake,” raising concerns about the impact on fishery resources. Local fisheries cooperatives have been working to restore these beds through measures such as removing sea urchins that feed on seaweed. To further advance these efforts, the Shinkamigoto District Seaweed Bed Restoration and Conservation Organization^*1, comprising members from industry, government, and academia, was established in 2024. As a member of this initiative, we support these activities by regularly monitoring the recovery of the seaweed beds.

During the June 2026 survey, we used our DT-X Extreme Echosounder to measure the extent and condition of the seaweed beds.

Carbon offsetting through J-Blue Credits

To provide ongoing support for seaweed bed restoration and conservation, we purchase carbon credits generated by the initiative under the J-Blue Credit scheme. In 2025, we purchased 2.5 t CO2e of J-Blue Credits to offset our carbon emissions.

We will continue to work with local communities to contribute to marine conservation by using our measurement technologies to monitor seaweed beds and supporting efforts to recognize the environmental value of blue carbon.

Fostering the next generation
Hosting nursing students for practical training

As part of our efforts to promote KENKO Investment for Health and nurture the next generation, we host nursing students for practical training. On July 1 and 2, 2026, we welcomed two fourth-year students from the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, Tokyo University of Technology. During the two-day program, they learned about health management activities in a corporate setting and the role of occupational health in protecting and promoting employee health.

The students attended a lecture by our occupational health nurse, spoke with employees, and gained hands-on experience by accompanying the nurse on workplace inspections and helping prepare materials. One student commented, “I realized that an occupational health nurse plays a vital role in creating an environment where employees can stay healthy and continue working.”

Stakeholder engagement
Welcoming employees and their families to Family Day

We regard our employees and their families as key stakeholders. Since 2024, we have held Family Day to help employees’ families become more familiar with our workplace and business while strengthening connections among employees and their families.

In August 2026, we held Family Day at our R&D Center. A total of 46 TOYO Corporation Group employees and family members from 16 families took part in the event. In addition to children’s activities such as exchanging business cards and making personalized handheld fans, participants tried VegeCheck®, a device that estimates vegetable intake levels, as part of our health and well-being initiatives. They also tried a driving simulator we offer, which uses real-world video footage.
