A 1.I am working on Windows XP. When I run Cluster, the window flashes briefly on the screen and then disappears.
For Windows XP Home:
- Go directly to the folder containing the Cluster executable file, cluster.exe (in the Cluster directory of IMPACT and the Utilities directory of MULTIVIEW).
- Right click on the file and select Properties.
- Choose the compatibility tab and select XP mode.
- Disable the bottom of three radio buttons in the dialogue box Visual Themes.
- Click OK.
For Window XP Professional:
- Under the Icon Properties | Compatibility Tab, you only need to check the Disable Visual Themes radio button.
A 2.When clustering my data, I ended up with 10 classes before reaching a point of diminishing returns. After the first two splits, classes 2 and 3 never split again, the remaining 8 classes were derived from class 1. Does this have any importance in interpretation? Are classes 2 and 3 significantly different from the rest?
The structure of the points distribution in Q-space is determined by the
output principal components analysis (PCA). PCA portrays the combinations of
features exhibiting similar variance as clusters in Q-Space. The hierarchy of
splitting is a function of the distribution of points and does not necessarily
correspond to a dominance in seabed diversity.
The combinations of points making up classes 2 and 3 are acoustically more
distinct than the others. However, being acoustically more distinct does not
mean more important. That is a question better answered by what questions you
are asking of the data. We have had many Q-space point distributions where the
first split remains untouched through the end.
